Smartfinanceinsights opened in 2026 in Halifax to do one thing: monthly financial analysis for owner-run companies that have outgrown a bookkeeper’s summary and are still too small to hire a finance director. The books in those companies are usually kept. What is missing is a calm, repeating read of cash, margin and the few decisions that will actually move the year. The practice exists so that read has a home, with the same people returning each month.
The practice is deliberately small. Twelve clients at a time is enough work to stay sharp and little enough that the people who build the pack are the people on the call. We favour long engagements over a wide roster. A company we already know takes less time to read, which is how the monthly fee stays fixed and the commentary stays specific. New work is taken when a seat is free, and the waiting list carries a date we can defend.
We sit alongside the accountant and the bookkeeper. We do not replace either. Halifax is the centre of the in-person work. The rest of Canada is remote, on Atlantic time. French correspondence is welcome. The analysis itself is written in English unless you ask for a French covering note.
There is no founder portrait on this page and no list of names. The practice speaks as a practice. If you write, a person will answer. That person will be the same one who later writes your memo and sits on the monthly call.
