Privacy notice
This page describes the information Smartfinanceinsights collects in 2026, why we collect it, where it is kept, and how to ask for a copy or a deletion. It is written for the systems we actually run.
Who we are
Smartfinanceinsights is a financial-analysis practice at 1489 Hollis Street, Suite 402, Halifax, Nova Scotia B3J 3M5, Canada. You can write to [email protected] or call +1 902 431 2670. We do not publish a business number, a GST/HST number, or any other registration identifier on this site. Public details are the name, this address, the telephone number, the e-mail address, our hours, the hosting line in the footer, and the short scope disclaimer on every page.
This notice is meant to meet the spirit of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) for a small commercial practice that handles enquiry details and, once engaged, client financial records. It is a description of our practice. It is not legal advice.
What the contact form collects, and why
The form on the contact page asks for your name, e-mail address and a message of at least forty characters. Company, telephone number, city or province, and the kind of work you selected are optional or helpful, not required for us to reply. The consent box is the permission to use those details to answer your enquiry. We do not use the form to build a marketing list, and we do not add you to a newsletter. There is no newsletter.
A hidden field named ref_note is there to catch automated posts. A person filling the form should leave it empty. A hidden time stamp is there so we can refuse a submission that arrives too quickly or after the page has sat open for many hours. Those two fields exist to keep junk out of the inbox. They are not used to profile you.
We keep enquiry mail for up to twenty-four months, then delete it unless an engagement letter is in force. If work starts, the enquiry follows the client-file rule below.
Client files once we are engaged
When work begins we receive view-only ledger access, historical statements, price lists, bank and loan documents, and the working papers we build. Those files are used only to perform the engagement you asked for. They are kept in Canadian-hosted storage, restricted to the people at the practice who are on the engagement. We do not use client data to train a model, to build a product, or to write a case study that could identify you.
We do not share a file with a third party unless you have instructed us in writing, or unless a law requires it. Your accountant receives what you send them. If you ask us to send a pack to a lender, we send that pack and nothing else from the folder. Access to the ledger is reviewed the week an engagement ends. Working papers are retained for seven years, which matches the period many Canadian businesses already keep tax and accounting records, and are then deleted. You may ask for an earlier deletion of enquiry data. Live working papers follow the engagement letter until the seven years run.
Cookies, analytics and advertising
This website does not set analytics cookies and does not set advertising cookies. There is no pixel, no remarketing tag, and no third-party script whose job is to follow you to another site. The cookie bar asks you to accept or decline a choice we store in your browser so the bar does not return on every visit. That store is described on the cookie notice. We do not copy the choice onto our server as a profile.
The hosting company keeps ordinary server logs (the requested file, the time, and an IP address) in order to run the site. We do not use those logs as a marketing list. The host is named in the footer: Hostinger International Ltd., 61 Lordou Vironos Street, 6023 Larnaca, Cyprus. Pages that embed a Google Map make a request to Google’s servers. Google’s own policies apply to that frame. The address is also written in text, so the site remains usable if the frame is blocked.
Your requests
Write to [email protected] if you want a copy of the enquiry details we hold, if you want them corrected, or if you want them deleted. We will answer within one week. You may withdraw consent for enquiry replies by saying so in an e-mail. If you are unhappy with how a request was handled, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. This notice was last updated in 2026. If we add a new purpose we will update this page first.
