Cookie notice
This page explains the small amount of storage this website uses, what the bar at the bottom is asking, and what happens when a page loads a map. Effective 2026.
What this site does not do
Smartfinanceinsights does not run analytics cookies, does not drop an advertising pixel, and does not operate a cross-site tracker on these pages. There is no Google Analytics tag, no Meta pixel, no LinkedIn insight tag, and no heat-map script. We do not sell a list and we do not buy an audience. If a sentence on another site claims that every business website “must” run those tools, that sentence is not about this one.
We still show a bar, because the site stores a choice in your browser, because some hosts set a technical cookie in order to serve the page, and because a Google Map is a third-party frame. The bar stays until you choose Accept or Decline. Silence is not treated as consent.
The choice we store
When you press Accept or Decline, a script writes the value into localStorage under the key sfi-cookie. localStorage is a small store on your device. It is not a classic HTTP cookie, and we still treat it as part of this notice because it is storage. We do not copy that value onto our server. We do not use it to recognise you on another site. Its only job is to hide the bar on a later visit.
At present Accept and Decline have the same practical effect on the pages themselves, because there is no optional analytics layer to turn on. We still ask, so that a later technical feature is not slipped under an old silence. If we add such a feature we will update this notice, and we will not treat an old Accept as covering a new purpose.
If localStorage is blocked, as it sometimes is in a private window, the bar may return on the next visit. That is inconvenient and harmless. The rest of the site, including the contact form, still works.
Technical storage and the form
The pages are ordinary HTML, CSS and JavaScript files. The host may set a technical cookie that the platform needs in order to route a request. We do not use that class of storage to recognise you as a lead. JavaScript on this site also switches a class on the document so that a short motion effect can run when you allow motion. That class lives for the visit and is not a cookie. If you have asked your system to reduce motion, the effect is turned off in the style sheet.
The enquiry form includes a time stamp in a hidden field and a honeypot field that should stay empty. Those values travel with the submission to send.php. They are not stored in your browser as cookies. They exist so we can refuse a machine-written post or a form that sat open for hours. Detail on how enquiry data is kept sits on the privacy notice.
The Google Maps embed
The footer on every page, and a larger map on the contact page, embed a Google Maps view of 1489 Hollis Street, Suite 402, Halifax, using a keyless iframe addressed at maps.google.com with an output=embed parameter. When your browser loads that frame, Google may set its own cookies or read identifiers according to Google’s own policies. We do not send your form fields through that frame. We do not use the Maps JavaScript API. We do not hold a Maps API key on this site.
If you block third-party frames, the map may appear blank. The address is still written in the footer and on the contact page, so you can still find the office. Opening Google’s frame is a request to Google’s servers, not to ours. Our reason for the embed is to show where the office is.
How to refuse or clear
Press Decline on the bar. That is enough. To clear the stored choice, use your browser’s controls for site data or localStorage for smartfinanceinsights.pro, or use a private window. After clearing, the bar will show again so you can choose. You can also block cookies and site storage entirely. The pages will still render and the form will still submit. The bar may keep returning because it cannot remember the answer.
